Taliban flogged at least 1,186 people and carried out six public executions in Afghanistan during March 2025 to March 2026, according to official statements and data compiled by Amu TV.
The punishments were carried out in many provinces, including Kabul, Herat, Balkh, Kandahar, Nangarhar, Khost, Badakhshan, Ghor, Paktia, Paktika, Faryab, Laghman, Kapisa, Parwan, Uruzgan, Zabul, Kunar, Maidan Wardak, Ghazni, Kunduz, Baghlan, Takhar, Badghis, Farah, Nimroz, Logar, Jowzjan, Helmand, Sar-e-Pol, Daikundi, and Bamyan.
According to the Taliban’s judicial statements, the number of corporal punishments increased during the final months of the year, and women were also among those punished. Official figures show that nearly 100 women were flogged over an eight-month period, with several punishments carried out in public.
Human rights activists say the rise in corporal punishment reflects broader restrictions under Taliban rule and raises serious concerns about fair legal procedures and basic freedoms. Human rights researcher Abdul Ahad Farzam said such actions could have long-term consequences and violate international human rights standards, creating fear in society.
Public executions were also carried out during the year under the principle of retributive justice. At least four provinces reported such incidents. In the most recent case, a man was executed in a stadium in Khost in front of thousands of spectators, including children. Three people were also executed in Badghis, while one execution each was reported in Farah and Nimroz.
