ISLAMABAD: Russia has extended an offer to mediate in the longstanding disputes between Pakistan and India, as well as between Pakistan and Afghanistan.
During a speech in Islamabad, Russian Ambassador Albert Khorev expressed Moscow's readiness to support peace efforts in the region, emphasizing that regional stability depends on dialogue and cooperation among all stakeholders.
Khorev highlighted Russia’s deep concern over the security situation in South Asia, particularly the ongoing instability in Afghanistan. He underscored that lasting peace can only be achieved through constructive engagement and mutual understanding among regional countries.
The ambassador reaffirmed Russia’s view of Pakistan as a vital regional partner. Under President Vladimir Putin’s vision of the Greater Eurasian Partnership, Pakistan is seen as a key player in enhancing regional connectivity and future cooperation. Khorev stressed that stronger bilateral ties could contribute significantly to regional stability and development.
Furthermore, Khorev pointed out that Moscow believes regional problems should be addressed by the countries directly involved. He expressed hope that Russia’s mediation efforts could pave the way for meaningful dialogue, fostering long-term peace in South Asia.
Russia’s initiative comes amid ongoing tensions and conflicts in the region, with many analysts viewing Moscow’s diplomatic outreach as a positive step toward de-escalation and increased cooperation in South Asia.
