France sees Syria as a potential alternative route for oil shipments amid ongoing disruptions in the Strait of Hormuz, Foreign Minister of France Jean-Noel Barrot said Thursday.

In an interview with French television network TF1, Foreign Minister of France Jean-Noel Barrot said it is important to develop alternative energy routes to ensure stable oil supplies to global markets following renewed U.S.-Iran tensions in the Strait of Hormuz.

He said France has been exploring alternative routes to help ensure global energy supplies are not disrupted by blockages in key transit areas.

A few days earlier, French President Emmanuel Macron visited Syria, where he discussed strengthening cooperation with the government of President Ahmad al-Sharaa.
