Google Messages bug resurfaces old texts.

Google Messages users are reporting a troubling bug in which old messages from unrelated conversations appear alongside new texts, images or group messages, raising privacy concerns for phone owners.

The issue has been reported in multiple threads. Users say the problem occurs when they start a new conversation, but the Messages app displays an old message from another chat next to the new content.

In some cases, the problem goes beyond what appears on the screen. Users have reported that an old message can be attached to a new message and delivered to the wrong person.

Other reports mention verification codes and private messages being attached to new conversations and sent to unintended recipients. Users say the issue has affected both Pixel and Samsung phones.

The problem also appears to occur regardless of whether Rich Communication Services (RCS), is turned on or off. Several users have tried common troubleshooting steps without success. These include clearing the Google Messages app cache, restarting the phone, turning RCS off and back on, and reinstalling the app.

Some users have claimed that a full factory reset stopped the problem. However, they said this worked only when they did not restore previous message backups.

There is no indication in the information provided that Google has confirmed either method as a reliable fix. A factory reset can also remove data from a device, making a backup important before taking such a step.

Google has acknowledged the issue at least once. The company asked a user who reported the bug to provide screenshots and submit feedback through the Messages app.

The reports have raised concerns because the bug can potentially place private or sensitive messages alongside new conversations. For now, users reporting the issue have not identified a consistent solution that works for everyone.
