Munro, who concluded his international play earlier this year after not making the cut for New Zealand’s T20 World Cup team, boasts participation in 428 T20 games across various leagues, amassing 10,961 runs at a strike rate of 141.25, including five centuries and 67 half-centuries.
Munro is entering his third stint with the Heat, marking him as the fourth cricketer to ink a multi-year contract with a BBL team under the league’s new regulations that permit signing one international player before the foreign player draft.
Having played for the Perth Scorchers during their 2021-22 BBL championship run, Munro has tallied 502 runs, highlighted by explosive innings of 98 and 99 not out over the past seasons with the Heat.
Previously, Munro had to leave early for the ILT20 to play with the Desert Vipers, but his renewed contract with the Heat guarantees his availability for the entire BBL season, including the playoffs.
In other news, Sam Billings, a former standout for the Heat, has been acquired by the Sydney Thunder, and Josh Brown, who shone in last season’s finals, is set to join the Melbourne Renegades.
“It was pretty poignant being away and watching the boys go one better to win the title, after going through the disappointment of the previous season when we got beaten at the death in the final,'” Munro reflected.
“It’s a strong squad again and I’m looking forward to being part of what we can build together. There are always opportunities to get better and as a group, we should be excited about the new goals we will pursue this summer.”
The Heat have also announced a coaching change, with Johan Botha taking over the reins from Wade Seccombe for the upcoming season.
