‘Rizwan, Babar busy making own records’
Cricketer Ahmed Shehzad criticized team captain Babar Azam and wicketkeeper-batter Muhammad Rizwan for focusing on personal achievements at the team’s expense.“Rizwan and Babar were so preoccupied with their own (personal) records that they compromised the team. Reinstating Babar Azam as captain was a grave error.
“After a loss, all they do is talk about learning from mistakes. When will that happen?” he rebuked.
Addressing alleged internal divisions, Shehzad identified cliques within the team as a major problem. “Unless these factions are dismantled, along with the ‘fake king’, a cohesive team cannot be established,” he asserted.
“If selectors deem me suitable for the team, I am ready to play. The current players are unfit for international cricket,” Shehzad declared.
‘Problem with middle-order’
Ex-cricketers Imran Nazir and Imam ul Haq also shared their views on Pakistan’s tournament exit.“The USA advanced to the Super Eight on merit. The pressure was too much for Pakistan to handle, rendering them unfit for promotion to the Super Eight,” Nazir commented.
“The Men in Green underperformed; our spinners and middle-order are problematic. Domestic players need encouragement,” Imam suggested.
