The WNBA has entered another headline-grabbing moment after the Dallas Wings selected Azzi Fudd with the No. 1 overall pick in the 2026 WNBA Draft, reuniting her with former UConn teammate Paige Bueckers.
The move brings together one of college basketball’s most successful guard pairings, as Fudd and Bueckers previously led UConn to a national championship in 2025. Their established chemistry and shared experience are expected to play a key role in Dallas’ future plans.

The reunion has also drawn attention due to the well-documented personal connection between the two players which became public in 2025. Their relationship adds an additional layer of public interest to an already major draft storyline.
Following her selection, Fudd expressed excitement about returning to the court with Bueckers, highlighting their long-standing bond and basketball understanding.
While the focus on Fudd and Bueckers is significant, relationships between teammates are not new in the league. Over the years, several high-profile WNBA couples have played together, including Diana Taurasi and Penny Taylor, as well as Courtney Vandersloot and Allie Quigley.
In more recent seasons, Alyssa Thomas and DeWanna Bonner have continued their careers as teammates while maintaining a long-term relationship, reflecting how such dynamics are professionally managed within the league.
Other examples including Natasha Cloud and Isabelle Harrison, further demonstrate that personal relationships among players have become an established part of the WNBA landscape.
Despite growing media attention, teams continue to prioritize performance and roster balance above all else. The league has a strong history of integrating personal dynamics without disrupting on-court success.
For the Dallas Wings, attention now turns to building around Bueckers and integrating Fudd into a system designed for immediate impact, given both players’ championship pedigree and familiarity with one another.
The return of Fudd and Bueckers as teammates marks one of the most notable reunions in recent WNBA history. Their shared success at UConn and existing chemistry position them as a potentially influential duo at the professional level.
Ultimately, their success will depend on consistency, adaptability, and sustained focus amid heightened public scrutiny. For Dallas, however, the pairing already represents one of the most compelling storylines of the 2026 season.
