The Maldives government has declared an extended public holiday for Eid ul Fitr, granting citizens a full week off under the orders of President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu.
According to an official statement, if Eid falls on March 31, 2025, the holiday will run from March 31 to April 3. If Eid is observed on March 30, the break would have started on March 30 and ended on April 1.
However, President Muizzu has ensured that the holiday will extend until April 3 regardless of the exact Eid date, allowing uninterrupted time for religious observance and family gatherings.
Following the extended holiday, the regular Friday and Saturday weekend means government offices will reopen on April 6, 2025.
Additionally, the government has also declared holidays starting March 20 to allow citizens to observe the last 10 days of Ramadan. This move aligns with President Muizzu’s policy of promoting Islamic practices and providing time for religious devotion.
Despite the long break, essential government services will remain operational to ensure public needs are met.
