Sindh Home Minister Zia-ul-Hassan Lanjar has announced the establishment of two international-standard police training centers in the province.
He made the announcement while addressing a ceremony at the Shaheed Benazir Bhutto Elite Police Training Centre, where he attended as the chief guest. The event marked the inauguration of several development projects and the completion of an elite training course.
Senior police officials, including Javed Alam Odho, along with additional IGs and DIGs, were also present. The home minister was warmly received upon arrival and was presented a guard of honor by a police contingent.
During the visit, Lanjar inaugurated a newly constructed anti-riot hall, a residential block for trainees (Block C), an upgraded firing range, and a new road connecting Block C to the main sections of the training center.
Speaking on the occasion, he said the addition of modern facilities would strengthen and improve the training system. He congratulated the participants on successfully completing the elite course and emphasized that professional training plays a key role in enhancing the capabilities of any force.
He appreciated the efforts of trainers for their dedication and professionalism in preparing the personnel. Trainees also gave practical demonstrations of their skills, which were well received by the audience. The minister distributed certificates and shields among successful participants and extended his best wishes for their future.
Lanjar also witnessed a live demonstration by the anti-riot platoon and praised their performance. He commended the efforts of Commandant Erum Awan, noting a clear improvement compared to previous training phases. He credited the success to teamwork by senior training officials.
He stressed that quality training is the foundation of an effective police force and directed that PC-1 recommendations for the new training centers be submitted at the earliest.
The home minister said the government is committed to bringing Sindh Police in line with international standards. He added that, following directions from the president and the chief minister, steps are being taken to modernize police training and improve facilities, which are essential for maintaining sustainable law and order in Karachi.
He assured that more resources would be provided to the police and highlighted improvements in operations in riverine (katcha) areas. He acknowledged ongoing challenges but expressed confidence that they would be overcome.
Lanjar also praised the overall performance of the training branch, particularly the efforts of Commandant Erum Awan, and announced a reward of Rs1 million for her.
IG Sindh Javed Alam Odho, in his remarks, emphasized the importance of training, stating that continuous efforts are being made to modernize and strengthen the system. He highlighted the significance of anti-riot training in handling emergencies and difficult situations.
He said that units like SSU and RRF have already been developed into modern forces, and similar improvements are being made in training systems. He reaffirmed the commitment to further innovation to enhance the overall performance of Sindh Police.
