KARACHI: Sindh Information Minister Sharjeel Memon said on Friday that the provincial government is keeping a close watch on the flood situation and all necessary steps are in place.
He explained that water levels at rivers and barrages continue to fluctuate, and relevant institutions are on high alert to monitor the flow.
Currently, low-level flooding is being reported at Guddu, Sukkur, Kotri, and Marala barrages. At Panjnad Barrage, the inflow and outflow stood at 310,479 cusecs. Guddu Barrage recorded 359,357 cusecs of inflow and 327,481 cusecs of outflow, while Sukkur Barrage saw an inflow of 331,155 cusecs and an outflow of 277,355 cusecs, showing a gradual decline.
Relief efforts are ongoing. In the past 24 hours, 6,890 people received medical care at 169 health camps, raising the total number of treated individuals to 27,801.
Evacuations from flood-prone katcha (riverine) areas are also in progress. Within a single day, 14,430 people were shifted to safer places, bringing the total to 109,320 evacuees. So far, 346,282 livestock have been moved to secure areas, and more than 750,000 animals have been vaccinated.
Memon noted that while water levels are slowly receding, the risk of floods has not disappeared. He added that the Sindh government is in close contact with the Punjab government to manage the situation and ensure protective measures remain in place.
