Record-breaking number of driving licenses issued by Punjab Traffic Police past month

The Punjab Traffic Police has reached a significant achievement by issuing a record-breaking 234,000 driving licenses across the province in the past month. Of these, 70,000 individuals chose to use the convenient online service to obtain their licenses, demonstrating an increasing shift towards digital services in the field of traffic regulations. This increase in the issuance of driving licenses indicates an enhancement in regulatory compliance. However, during the same period, the authorities also recorded a substantial number of traffic violations. The traffic police imposed fines amounting to millions on over 972,000 drivers for various offenses.

In particular, more than 46,000 motorcyclists were penalized for not wearing helmets, underscoring the importance of safety equipment. Furthermore, over 180,000 challans were issued to drivers without licenses and underage drivers, highlighting the ongoing efforts to ensure road safety and legal adherence.

In addition, strict actions were taken against lane violations and overloading, with more than 230,000 vehicles fined for disregarding these rules. These measures are part of a wider strategy to encourage disciplined and safe driving habits on Punjab’s roads.

Despite these efforts, road accidents continue to be a problem, with 282 individuals losing their lives in 37,634 reported incidents just last month. In response, Dr. Rizwan Naseer, Secretary of the Emergency Services Department (ESD), has urged motorbike riders to stick to a maximum speed of 50 km per hour in the left lane, emphasizing ongoing efforts to reduce accidents and improve road safety.

The unprecedented number of driving licenses issued by the Punjab Traffic Police signifies both an increasing compliance with regulatory procedures and the ongoing challenges in promoting safe and responsible driving habits among drivers in the province.
