In particular, more than 46,000 motorcyclists were penalized for not wearing helmets, underscoring the importance of safety equipment. In addition, strict actions were taken against lane violations and overloading, with more than 230,000 vehicles fined for disregarding these rules. These measures are part of a wider strategy to encourage disciplined and safe driving habits on Punjab’s roads.
Despite these efforts, road accidents continue to be a problem, with 282 individuals losing their lives in 37,634 reported incidents just last month. In response, Dr. Rizwan Naseer, Secretary of the Emergency Services Department (ESD), has urged motorbike riders to stick to a maximum speed of 50 km per hour in the left lane, emphasizing ongoing efforts to reduce accidents and improve road safety.
The unprecedented number of driving licenses issued by the Punjab Traffic Police signifies both an increasing compliance with regulatory procedures and the ongoing challenges in promoting safe and responsible driving habits among drivers in the province.
