The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has issued a weather advisory for expected cloudy weather, scattered rain, and windstorms from Friday to Wednesday (June 13–16) in Islamabad, Rawalpindi, the Potohar region, and upper Punjab.
The NDMA’s National Emergencies Operation Center (NEOC) warned the public to take precautions and stay updated using the NDMA app.
Meanwhile, the rest of Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Sindh, Balochistan, and some areas of Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Jammu and Kashmir will experience extreme heat during June 13 to 18.
A weak western weather system is expected to affect northern parts of the country from June 13 to 16, which may impact the weather in several provinces.
Punjab is expected to remain hot throughout the week. Khyber Pakhtunkhwa will mostly experience hot weather, but scattered rain and windstorms are likely in several districts including Chitral, Dir, Haripur, Karak, Kohat, Kohistan, Khyber, Kurram, Mansehra, Mohmand, Nowshera, Malakand, Charsadda, Abbottabad, Bannu, Buner, Hazara, Peshawar, Swabi, Swat, Waziristan, and surrounding areas.
Sindh and Balochistan are expected to stay mainly hot and dry during the advisory period. In Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Jammu and Kashmir, hot weather will also prevail, although places like Astore, Skardu, Hunza, Shighar, Bagh, and Neelum Valley may receive light rainfall between June 13 and 16.
The NDMA and NEOC are monitoring the situation and working with provincial and district authorities to stay prepared. People living in areas affected by heat are advised to take care, drink plenty of water, avoid going out during the hottest hours (11 AM to 4 PM), wear light clothing, and check on children, older people, and those with health issues. People should also avoid leaving children or pets inside parked vehicles.
