All schools and colleges in Kot Momin Tehsil, Sargodha, have been shut down for seven days because of the ongoing flood crisis. A formal notice has confirmed that classes will remain suspended until September 2.
Officials said the decision was taken to keep children safe as water levels in the area continue to rise.
Punjab is currently facing one of the worst flood emergencies, with the Sutlej, Ravi, and Chenab rivers overflowing and flooding nearby villages. Thousands of acres of crops have already been destroyed, leaving locals in distress.
The Punjab government has declared an emergency in several districts, while the Pakistan Army is on the ground helping with rescue and relief work.
Authorities explained that the situation worsened after India released water into Pakistani rivers without prior warning, which increased the flooding. Rescue teams have also cautioned that if water levels keep rising, more districts could face school closures and even evacuations in the coming days.
