The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has started giving licenses to Virtual Private Network (VPN) service providers to help businesses use them legally.

According to PTA, two companies have already received licenses after applying. This step is meant to improve online security, privacy, and regulatory compliance for businesses.

More people in Pakistan have started using VPNs, especially after the government banned X (formerly Twitter).
Last month, PTA reported that heavy VPN usage was slowing down the internet across the country. The increased demand has put pressure on bandwidth, making internet speeds slower.
PTA has sent a report to the Ministry of IT, recommending an upgrade in bandwidth to handle growing internet needs.
