Islamabad: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif presided over a high-level meeting to review Pakistan’s petroleum sector, focusing on reserves, transportation, conservation, and ensuring an uninterrupted supply to the public.
The session included a comprehensive briefing on regional developments, global oil market trends, and the country’s energy needs. Officials assured that Pakistan currently maintains adequate petroleum reserves with no immediate threat of shortages.
During the meeting, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif emphasized strict measures against hoarding and smuggling, warning that any petrol station found involved in artificial shortages or hoarding would face immediate shutdown, license revocation, and legal action.
A decision was made to develop a digital dashboard for real-time monitoring of petroleum product movement, enabling better oversight and coordination with provincial authorities.
The Prime Minister also directed the Petroleum Minister and relevant officials to collaborate with provinces to formulate a unified plan for conserving fuel, maintaining supply, and managing the sector effectively.
Additionally, the government discussed implementing measures such as reduced working days, virtual education, and remote work options to conserve fuel amid regional tensions, especially in the Middle East, which are impacting global energy markets.
The meeting was attended by key federal and provincial officials, including ministers, chief secretaries, the Governor of the State Bank, and senior government representatives.
