Karachi weather update: hot and dry conditions expected

Karachi weather update: hot and dry conditions expected

The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) predicts hot and dry weather for Karachi and other parts of Sindh on Thursday and Friday.

Coastal regions will experience hot and humid conditions, with isolated showers anticipated in the upper districts.

Weather conditions and forecast

Weak moist currents from the Arabian Sea and a shallow westerly wave are influencing the weather in upper and central Pakistan. This pattern is expected to bring very hot weather to the upper districts of Sindh, while coastal areas, including Karachi, will endure hot and humid conditions.
  • Karachi: Temperatures are forecasted to range between 35-37°C on Thursday and 34-36°C on Friday.
  • Hyderabad: Expected temperatures will be between 38-40°C on both days.
Dust-raising winds and windstorms may affect southern and central districts in the afternoon. Sukkur, Ghotki, Kashmore, and Jacobabad might experience windstorms or thunderstorms with isolated rain in the evening and night.

Recent weather observations

In the past 24 hours, most of Sindh experienced hot and dry conditions. Notable temperature records include:
  • Dadu: Recorded the highest temperature at 46 °C.
  • Mohenjo-Daro: Reached a high of 45 °C.
  • Karachi: Hit a maximum temperature of 36 °C with 65% humidity in the evening.
  • Hyderabad: Recorded a maximum of 39 °C with 49% humidity in the evening.

Implications and Recommendations

Residents are advised to take precautions against the heat by staying hydrated, avoiding direct sunlight during peak hours, and seeking shaded or air-conditioned environments.

Additionally, those in the southern and central districts should be prepared for potential dust storms and windstorms in the afternoon.

Stay informed with the latest weather forecasts and advisories from the PMD to ensure safety during this hot and dry period.
