Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif took a strong stance against Israeli actions in Gaza, Lebanon, and Iran during his address at the Arab Islamic Summit in Riyadh on Monday, reaffirming Pakistan's steadfast support for the Palestinian people.
Speaking to Arab and Muslim leaders, Sharif called for an immediate ceasefire, condemned Israel's military actions, and urged concrete steps to address the worsening humanitarian crisis in Gaza.
Sharif described conditions in Gaza as unprecedented, highlighting the destruction, loss of life, and the constant fear faced by families. He labeled the situation as “genocide,” echoing the International Court of Justice, and criticized the global community for failing to take meaningful action, saying Israel is violating every moral standard.
The Prime Minister voiced his disappointment over the international community's “indifference and inaction,” which he said has emboldened Israel, rendering calls for aid and ceasefire ineffective. He also expressed frustration with the ongoing supply of advanced weapons to Israel, which he said receives “unconditional assistance and protection” while ignoring humanitarian laws meant to protect civilians.
Sharif asserted that “humanity is being tested and failing,” adding that the prolonged suffering has strengthened Palestinian resistance and their resolve to fight for freedom.
In a heartfelt call for unity, PM Shehbaz reiterated Pakistan's commitment to a fully independent Palestinian state, with Jerusalem (Al-Quds Sharif) as its capital, based on pre-1967 borders. He stressed that Palestinian self-determination is essential for "justice and lasting peace in the Holy Land" and condemned the threat Israel’s actions pose to regional stability.
He warned that the recent escalations in Gaza, Lebanon, and Iran could spark a larger regional conflict. Urging the Muslim world to stand united with the Palestinians, he emphasized that silence in the face of Israel’s “systematic genocide and aggression” would only allow these injustices to continue.
In closing, PM Shehbaz called for unity and decisive action from the summit leaders, urging them to turn their words into meaningful steps. “Let this summit be a turning point where our voices lead to real change,” he concluded, expressing hope for the long-awaited freedom of Palestine.
