Monsoon rains with scattered heavy and sometimes very heavy showers are expected in Lahore and several other parts of Punjab this week. The ninth spell of the monsoon will begin on Friday, August 29, and continue on and off until September 2.
According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department, strong monsoon winds from the Arabian Sea and the Bay of Bengal will enter the upper parts of Pakistan on August 29, while a westerly system will reach the upper and central regions on August 30. Under these weather conditions, intermittent monsoon rains are expected in Lahore and different areas of Punjab from August 29 to September 2.
Heavy to very heavy rain at times is also expected in Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Murree, Galiyat, Attock, Chakwal, Jhelum, Mandi Bahauddin, Gujrat, Gujranwala, Hafizabad, Wazirabad, Kasur, Sheikhupura, Sialkot, and Narowal. The ninth monsoon spell will also bring rain to Mianwali, Khushab, Sargodha, Jhang, Toba Tek Singh, Nankana Sahib, Chiniot, Faisalabad, and Sahiwal. In addition, intermittent showers with isolated heavy falls are likely in Dera Ghazi Khan, Bhakkar, Layyah, Multan, Bahawalpur, Bahawalnagar, Rajanpur, and Rahimyar Khan.

The widespread rains may cause flash floods in local streams and drains in Murree, Galiyat, Islamabad, Rawalpindi, and northeast Punjab. Bursts of heavy rain may also lead to urban flooding in Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, Lahore, Sialkot, Faisalabad, Peshawar, Nowshera, and Mardan. Landslides or mudslides could block roads in vulnerable areas such as Murree and Galiyat.
In Lahore, maximum temperatures are expected to stay between 31°C and 33°C on Thursday, 30°C and 32°C on Friday, and 29°C and 31°C on Saturday. Meanwhile, during the last 24 hours, rain, wind, and thunderstorms with heavy showers occurred in several parts of Punjab.
