The Higher Education Commission has decided to introduce double and joint degree programs in universities and has officially approved both systems.
According to HEC officials, under the new double degree system, students will be allowed to enroll in two different university programs at the same time. These programs do not have to be from the same department.
Earlier, students were allowed to enroll in only one degree program at a time.
The HEC has also approved the introduction of a joint degree program. In this system, students will complete part of their studies at one university and the rest at another.
For a joint degree, both universities must sign a memorandum of understanding, and the program will also need approval from HEC.
According to HEC, joint degree programs can be offered between universities within Pakistan as well as with international institutions. This step is expected to provide students with more flexibility and better opportunities in higher education.
