Maulana Fazl ur Rehman, the chief of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (F), rejected any amendments proposed by the government to the Madrasah bill.
During a press conference in Charsadda, he made it clear that his party would not even consider such suggestions and would outright reject them.
Fazl ur Rehman criticized the President for returning the Madrasah bill, which had already been approved by both the National Assembly and Senate. He questioned why the President had objections to this bill while signing other bills into law.
He clarified that the bill ensures madrasahs have the autonomy to affiliate with any federal institution, whether under the 1860 Act or the Ministry of Education.
He rejected the government’s claims that madrasahs would be affiliated with the Ministry of Education alone.
The JUI-F leader accused the government of trying to create divisions among religious scholars and madrasahs over the bill. He stressed that there was unity among all religious scholars and madrasahs regarding the matter.
A meeting called by Mufti Taqi Usmani and the president of the Federation of Madrasahs on December 17 will address the issue and reach a unified decision.
Fazl ur Rehman advised the government not to politicize the matter, as it concerns law and regulation. He also criticized attempts to control madrasahs through executive orders.
