KASUR: Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari has urged Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to declare a national agricultural emergency in the wake of heavy floods caused by India's releasing water without notice.
Speaking to farmers in Kasur, Bilawal criticized the Modi government, accusing it of violating international law and the Indus Waters Treaty. He said India has been releasing water without informing Pakistan, worsening flood conditions across Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and Gilgit-Baltistan.
Bilawal called on the federal government to provide immediate relief to farmers, including loan waivers and assistance with electricity bills. He stressed that financial aid should also be delivered to affected families through the Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP).
The PPP chairman praised Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz and her administration for their hard work in helping flood victims, while reminding the federal government of its responsibility to support all provinces during this crisis.
He added that Pakistan will continue to raise its voice internationally against India’s violations of the Indus Waters Treaty and will push to ensure that India either respects the agreement or returns Pakistan’s rivers.
