The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) confirmed on Sunday that 47 Pakistani nationals were rescued from the site of the boat capsizing in Greece, while one Pakistani was confirmed to be among the victims who lost their lives in the incident.
The MoFA stated that it is currently unable to confirm the total number of Pakistani casualties. Embassy officials have arrived in Crete to meet with the rescued Pakistani nationals and provide the necessary support.
In response to the incident, the embassy has activated its Crisis Management Unit (CMU) to assist Pakistanis in Greece. Pakistani citizens who require help are urged to contact the CMU at (051-9207887) or email at [email protected].
Families of missing Pakistanis are encouraged to contact the Embassy of Pakistan at (+30-6943850188) with any relevant information. The MoFA continues to monitor the situation and provide assistance to those affected.
Earlier, at least five migrants have drowned after their wooden boat capsized near Greece’s southern island of Gavdos, the coastguard reported on Saturday. Rescue operations are ongoing, with many migrants still missing.
So far, 39 men, mostly from Pakistan, have been rescued by cargo ships in the area and transferred to Crete. However, according to the coastguard, the exact number of missing migrants remains unknown.
