WASHINGTON: U.S. President Donald Trump has labeled the Indian economy as "dead", criticizing its close economic ties with Russia and imposing high trade tariffs.
In a statement posted on his social media platform, Truth Social, Trump said, “I don’t care what India does with Russia. They can take their dead economies down together — I’m only concerned with what’s best for the United States.”
The former president added, “We’ve done very little trade with India, yet their tariffs are among the highest in the world.” It’s the same with Russia — trade between the U.S. and Russia is almost nonexistent.”
Trump’s comments come amid rising global scrutiny of India's growing economic cooperation with Russia despite Western sanctions.
It should be noted that US President Trump announced the completion of a trade agreement with Pakistan in his social media post and said that the United States would take steps to increase Pakistan's oil reserves.
On the other hand, US President Trump has once again criticized India, announcing a 25 percent tariff and a fine.
Earleir, Pakistan and the United States have successfully concluded a major trade agreement aimed at boosting bilateral trade, improving market access, and expanding cooperation in areas of mutual interest.
According to the Finance Ministry, the deal will create new trade and investment opportunities in various sectors, including energy, minerals, IT and crypto currency. Under the agreement, tariffs between the two countries will reduce, which will facilitate Pakistani exports to reach the US market.
The agreement was officially announced by US President Donald Trump through a post on Turth Social.
