NEW YORK: A high-level summit on the Palestine issue, co-chaired by Saudi Arabia and France, will be held today at the United Nations to discuss the two-state solution.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif is set to participate in the conference.
According to the Foreign Office spokesperson, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif will attend the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) session from today until September 26.
The spokesperson said the Prime Minister will emphasize the right to self-determination of both Palestinians and Kashmiris, while also highlighting the Gaza crisis and the hardships faced by the Palestinian people during his address to the General Assembly.
He will further present Pakistan’s stance on pressing global issues, including terrorism, climate change, and Islamophobia.
During his visit, Prime Minister Sharif will also take part in high-level meetings and special sessions, hold bilateral discussions with world leaders and UN officials, and join Islamic leaders in a meeting with the US President.
The prime minister will have bilateral meetings on the sidelines with several world leaders and senior UN officials for exchange of views on issues of mutual interest.
He will also underline Pakistan’s resolve to work with all UN Member States to uphold the UN Charter, prevent conflict, foster peace and promote global prosperity in Pakistan’s current role as a member of the Security Council.
“The Prime Minister’s participation in this biggest annual gathering of global leaders will showcase Pakistan’s strong commitment to multilateralism and the United Nations and to highlight Pakistan’s longstanding contribution towards the shared objectives of peace and development,” it was further added.
