LODHRAN / GILGIT: As many as five people, including two doctors, were killed after flash floods swept through the Babusar-Thak Road in Diamer district of Gilgit-Baltistan.
A well-known medical family from Lodhran has gone missing after being swept away by a flash flood near Babusar Top while en route to Gilgit-Skardu.
According to reports, Islam, owner of private hospital of Lodhran, was traveling with his entire family in a convoy comprising a college coaster and three private vehicles. The group included his two sons, their wives, two daughters, their children — a total of 22 family members.
Tragedy struck near Chilas, where their vehicles were caught in a powerful flood caused by a cloudburst. Confirmed fatalities include Fahad Islam and Dr Mashal Saad, wife of Saad Islam. Saad Islam’s son has also gone missing in the raging floodwaters.
Search and rescue operations are ongoing, with Pakistan Army units and local authorities actively involved in the effort. The incident is part of the wider devastation caused by cloudbursts and flash floods in the Gilgit-Baltistan region, which has stranded dozens of tourists and blocked key roads due to landslides.
Authorities have requested the public to avoid travel to the northern areas until conditions improve and rescue efforts are completed.
The family, belonging to the Punjab city of Lodhran, became victims of a flood relay on the way from Babusar Top to the glass, rescue teams have been mobilized to find and save their lives in the flood relay and rescue operations have been launched.
Local administration says heavy rains from cloudburst in the Babusar Topi caused heavy rains in the area of 7 to 8 km, resulting in more than 30 vehicles flowing, roads were blocked and heavy stones were blocked.
Relief operations have been launched with the support of the Pakistan Army to assist passengers stranded along the Babusar Road.
According to Gilgit-Baltistan government spokesperson Faizullah Faraq, Chief Minister Gilgit-Baltistan Haji Gulbar Khan has directed all concerned departments to enhance the effectiveness of the ongoing relief efforts.
