A cloudburst in Naseerabad, a tehsil of Muzaffarabad, Azad Jammu and Kashmir, claimed the lives of six members of the same family.
Torrential rains and flash flooding in various parts of Azad Jammu & Kashmir have caused rivers and streams to overflow, triggering widespread inundation and damage.
Deadly flash floods and landslides have hit northern Pakistan and Kashmir, causing widespread damage and a high number of deaths. The devastating weather events have affected multiple regions, with officials urging caution as rescue efforts continue.
In Azad Kashmir, a sudden cloudburst in Muzaffarabad’s Naseerabad area tragically killed six members of one family. Elsewhere, a tourist vehicle was swept away by a high-grade flood in Bagh district, though all occupants were successfully rescued. In response to the dangerous conditions, the Deputy Commissioner of Bagh announced that all educational institutions in the district would be closed as a precautionary measure.
The devastation also extended to Indian-occupied Kashmir, where a catastrophic cloudburst in a remote Himalayan village left at least 50 people dead and over 100 injured. The village was almost completely destroyed by the rushing floodwaters. Rescue teams have so far recovered 43 bodies, and searches are ongoing for more than 200 people who are still missing. The victims included hundreds of Hindu pilgrims visiting the area.
Meanwhile, in Gilgit-Baltistan, the situation remains critical. A landslide in the Ghizer district killed three people, and another three are missing. In Diamer, a brother and sister were swept away by flash floods. Authorities in Hunza have also urged residents to evacuate their homes after a glacier began to melt, causing significant erosion.
In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, rescue teams worked quickly to move over 1,300 tourists to safety after a stream near Siran Valley overflowed. The Karakoram Highway was also closed to all traffic in Upper Kohistan due to rising water levels in the Indus River. As the rain continues, local authorities in all affected areas have issued warnings and are advising people to stay away from low-lying areas
