KARACHI: The Sindh government has officially issued a notification setting the minimum monthly wage at Rs. 40,000.
According to the notification: Semi-skilled workers are to receive a minimum monthly wage of Rs. 41,280 while skilled workers have been allocated a minimum wage of Rs. 48,910. For highly skilled workers, the minimum wage has been fixed at Rs. 50,868 per month.
This revised wage structure aims to address inflationary pressures and improve the livelihood of laborers across the province.
Secretary Rafiq Qureshi said that the minimum wage increase was made under the Sindh Minimum Wages Act 2015, objections or proposals could be sent to the minimum wage board within 14 days.
He said that the minimum wage increase came into force from July 1, 2025, proposed an 8.1 percent increase in workers' wages and directed to pay the minimum wage of Rs 192 per hour on a daily basis.
According to Rafiq Qureshi, the minimum wage will apply to all registered and unregistered institutions.
Sindh Labour Minister Shahid Thaheem has stated that female workers will be paid equal to their male counterparts, ensuring gender equality in wages.
He emphasized that strict legal action will be taken against any violation of the newly notified minimum wage structure.
“Our aim is to provide workers with protection, dignity, and a better standard of living,” the minister added, reaffirming the government’s commitment to labor rights and welfare.
