UNICEF has started an important campaign in Pakistan to tackle child marriage. The main goal is to raise awareness about the rights of children, especially young girls, in society. It's a serious effort to protect their future.
Actress Saba Qamar, a UNICEF National Ambassador, features in an emotional video message for the campaign. She strongly speaks against forced child marriages, asking, "Forcing a girl into a future against her will, where is the justice?" Her message highlights the dangers to health, education, and life chances.
The campaign also shows UNICEF's work in Pakistan that's helping children. Saba Qamar visited Sajawal district in Sindh, seeing how childhoods are being saved. She shared how 14-year-old Anam Nazir stopped three child marriages in her community, showing that change is truly possible.
Pakistan ranks sixth globally for child marriages, with around 19 million girls married before 18. Sadly, over half become mothers as children, risking their health and education. Only 13% of married girls finish secondary school, compared to 44% of unmarried girls, deeply affecting their future.
