Faisalabad: An Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) in Faisalabad has sentenced 59 individuals, including senior PTI leaders Omar Ayub and Shibli Faraz, to 10 years in prison in connection with the May 9 attack on the residence of former Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah.
The court also handed down 3-year jail terms to 16 other accused, while 34 individuals were acquitted due to lack of evidence.
In total, 75 people were convicted in this case, with all sentences announced in absentia.
Among those sentenced to 10 years are prominent PTI figures including Omar Ayub, Shibli Faraz, Zartaj Gul, Sheikh Rashid Shafiq, Rai Murtaza Iqbal, and Kanwal Shauzab. Other notable names include Ismail Sila, Ansar Iqbal, Bilal Ejaz, Ashraf Sohna, Mehr Javed, and Shakeel Niazi.
Meanwhile, former federal minister Fawad Chaudhry and Zain Qureshi were among the 34 individuals acquitted by the court.
The case stems from violent incidents that occurred on May 9, following the arrest of PTI Chairman Imran Khan, which led to widespread protests, arson, and attacks on public and private property across the country.
This specific case was related to the attack and vandalism at Rana Sanaullah’s residence and was registered at the Samanabad Police Station. A total of 109 individuals, including top PTI leadership, were nominated in the FIR.
This verdict marks the conclusion of the fourth and final case related to the May 9 riots in Faisalabad, with decisions on the previous three cases already delivered earlier.
