Washington: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif met with U.S. President Donald Trump at the White House on Thursday, marking the first formal bilateral engagement between the two leaders. The high-level meeting, held in the Oval Office, was also attended by Pakistan's Chief of Army Staff, Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir.
This was the first official visit by a sitting Pakistani prime minister to the White House since July 2019. The meeting lasted for over an hour and covered a range of topics, including mutual interests, global challenges, and regional stability.

The government of Pakistan posted on X.
Speaking to the media ahead of the meeting, President Trump expressed strong praise for the Pakistani leadership. “Prime Minister Shehbaz and Field Marshal Asim Munir are both great people,” he said. “Field Marshal Munir is an excellent person, and the Prime Minister is doing a great job leading Pakistan.”

Before meeting, Trump said that "a great leader" is coming to the White House.
U.S. Vice President JD Vance and Secretary of State Marco Rubio also participated in the discussions, underlining the strategic significance of the talks.

The meeting, originally scheduled for 4:30 p.m. Washington time (1:30 a.m. PST), was briefly delayed as President Trump addressed reporters after signing a new executive order.

Defense Minister Khawaja Asif hailed the recent developments in Pakistan’s foreign and defense policy following the meeting between Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and U.S. President Donald Trump.
Highlighting over India's victory he said, “Victory over India, and a defense agreement has been signed with Saudi Arabia,” he stated, highlighting key regional developments.
“Unprecedented progress has been made in Pakistan–U.S. relations,” said Khawaja Asif, describing the diplomatic engagement as a major milestone.
Reflecting on the broader trajectory of national affairs, the minister added, “Alhamdulillah, the year 2025 is full of successes.”
He further said, “The series of successes of the hybrid system partnership continues.”
