LAHORE: South Africa Women’s cricket team clinched the three-match ODI series against Pakistan after securing victory in the second ODI at Gaddafi Stadium, Lahore.
Batting first, South Africa set a revised target of 313 runs for Pakistan under the Duckworth-Lewis method. In reply, the hosts fell short, bowled out for 287 runs despite a fighting effort.
Pakistan opener Sidra Ameen’s brilliant century went in vain, while Natalia Pervaiz scored 73 runs, Omaima Sohail contributed 43, Aliya Riaz added 18, and Ramin Shamim managed 12.
“I always aim to give my best for the team. Today’s innings was special, but it’s disappointing that we couldn’t get over the line,” said Sidra Amin during the post-match media interaction.
Natalia Pervez provided strong support with a well-made 73, stabilizing the innings after the loss of early wickets. Omaima Sohail contributed 43, while Aliya Riaz (18) and Rameen Shamim (12) added brief cameos down the order.
However, the lack of depth in the lower middle order was evident as Pakistan collapsed under pressure during the final overs.
South Africa’s bowlers held their nerve, with Ayabonga Khaka and Nonkululeko Mlaba sharing crucial breakthroughs to derail Pakistan’s chase at critical moments.
This series defeat puts Pakistan on the back foot ahead of the third and final ODI, scheduled for September 22 at the same venue. While the series is already decided, the match presents an opportunity for Pakistan to regain momentum and salvage pride.
Head coach Mohtashim Rasheed acknowledged the team’s efforts but emphasized the need for stronger finishing. “The girls showed heart. Sidra has been phenomenal, but we need more contributions across the board if we are to compete with top sides like South Africa.”
With the ICC Women's Championship points and long-term team development in focus, Pakistan will be keen to bounce back in the final ODI.
