Maldives: Pakistan launched their campaign at the Commonwealth Beach Handball Championship with a commanding 2-0 victory over traditional rivals India. The Pakistani team secured the win with strong set scores of 26-9 and 34-12.
Ahmed Hussain was named Man of the Match after delivering an outstanding performance, helping Pakistan assert control throughout the game. Following this successful start, Pakistan is set to face Maldives and Sri Lanka in upcoming matches.
In a positive show of sportsmanship, players from both teams shook hands and exchanged friendly gestures after the match, underscoring mutual respect despite the competitive rivalry.
This gesture contrasts sharply with a recent incident during the Asia Cup T20 cricket match, where Indian captain Suryakumar Yadav reportedly avoided shaking hands with Pakistani captain Salman Ali Agha.
Furthermore, the Indian team did not engage in the customary handshake with the Pakistani players after the match, instead returning directly to the dressing room. Pakistani captain Salman Ali Agha and Coach Mike Hesson approached the Indian side, but no Indian player responded.
Indian media later reported that Indian head coach Gautam Gambhir had instructed his players not to shake hands with the Pakistani team, a decision that drew criticism worldwide for failing to uphold the values of sportsmanship.
