Pakistan confirms presence of poliovirus in environmental samples

KARACHI: The National Emergency Operations Centre (NEOC) has issued the latest results of environmental surveillance for July, confirming the presence of poliovirus in multiple districts.

According to the NEOC, poliovirus has been detected in samples from Diamer, South Waziristan, Lahore, and Rawalpindi.

Laboratory analysis confirmed the presence of Poliovirus Type 1, the most dangerous strain of the virus.

The National Emergency Operations Centre (NEOC) has announced that the nationwide anti-polio campaign will be conducted from September 1 to 7, targeting 28 million children under the age of five.

The campaign will be carried out across 99 districts in all four provinces and regions of the country.

The NEOC has urged parents to ensure that their children receive the polio drops, emphasizing the importance of vaccination to protect against the dangerous Poliovirus Type 1.
