London: Netflix’s groundbreaking drama Adolescence, co-created by Jack Thorne and Stephen Graham, has won the coveted Golden Rose at the 64th Rose d’Or Awards, the most prestigious honor in international television.
The award recognizes programmes that push creative boundaries, deliver cultural impact, and spark national and global conversations.
Adolescence follows the gripping story of a teenage boy accused of murder after encountering “incel” culture online.
The four-part series has become a global phenomenon, averaging 45 million monthly viewers and emerging as a must-watch for parents and young audiences alike.
The show was praised by Rose d’Or Awards Chair Mark Rowland, who said: “Adolescence exemplifies the spirit of the Golden Rose – outstanding storytelling that changes the way audiences think. Jack Thorne and Stephen Graham have crafted a series of true emotional and cultural significance.”
This award adds to the show’s impressive accolades. In September, 15-year-old star Owen Cooper made history as the youngest-ever male Emmy winner for “Best Supporting Actor” for his role as Jamie Miller.
Filmed at age 14, Cooper received a standing ovation on stage, outshining seasoned actors including Javier Bardem, and was presented the award by Sydney Sweeney.
Jack Thorne will attend the Rose d’Or ceremony in London on December 1 to receive the Golden Rose in person, further cementing Adolescence’s status as one of the most talked-about and influential series of the year.
