KARACHI: Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi visited the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) Karachi Zone, where he chaired a high-level meeting and issued strong directives for indiscriminate action against various criminal networks affecting the country's image and economy.
During the meeting, the Naqvi ordered a decisive crackdown on the Hawala-Hundi(illegal currency) mafia, emphasizing that: “Action must be taken against influential individuals involved in illegal money transfers. No one should be spared, regardless of their status.”
Mohsin Naqvi also took serious notice of agents involved in trafficking beggars abroad, stating: “This network is tarnishing Pakistan’s image internationally. A visible, indiscriminate campaign must be launched against such mafias.”
He further directed law enforcement to apprehend absconding agents with the cooperation of other provinces and to ensure the arrest of deported beggars returning from abroad.
The Minister expressed zero tolerance towards the sale of counterfeit medicines, stating: “Those running this despicable trade deserve to be behind bars. The law must deal with them with an iron hand.”
He ordered a strong operation against non-custom paid (NCP) products, and strict legal action against passengers attempting to carry over USD 5,000 abroad, in violation of currency regulations.
“No leniency will be shown. Such violations must be dealt with as per law,” he told FIA officials.
During the visit, FIA Karachi Zone Director Nauman Siddiq briefed the Interior Minister on the agency’s performance, ongoing challenges, and pending issues.
