Administrator of 'Cattle-Friendly Market 2025' Shahab Ali has said that the cattle market will be inaugurated today.
Mayor Karachi Murtaza Wahab expected to inaugurate Asia’s largest temporary cattle market at the Northern Bypass.
Addressing a press conference, Shahab Ali said the market would span 1,200 acres, divided into 20 blocks, with the capacity to accommodate up to 200,000 large animals and 100,000 small animals.
He said that food, water, and fodder would be permitted from outside sources, and security patrolling would be conducted from the market site to Gulshan-e-Maymar. The administrator added that parking fees had been slashed by up to 50 percent, with motorcycles to be charged Rs1,600, cars Rs3,250, and trucks Rs5,000.
Tents, water, and lighting will be provided free of charge. The cattle market was as a family-friendly festival,” Ali said, adding that a food street would also be set up to enhance the experience for buyers and visitors.
Traders will be allowed to bring their own fodder and tents, but they will not be permitted to sell them within the market premises.
Ali said VIP charges would range between Rs200,000 to Rs250,000, but all general facilities would remain free for the public. Additionally, stalls for animal health services would be offered at a 50 percent discount.
He emphasized that the initiative was more than just a cattle market, calling it a family festival. Regarding security, he said the number of police personnel deployed on the routes leading to the market would be tripled.
The administrator also announced a reduction in animal entry fees, with a detailed fee schedule to be issued soon. A team of veterinary doctors will be on-site to inspect animals, and medicines will be provided at a 50 percent discount.
