ISLAMABAD: The Judicial Commission of Pakistan (JCP) will consider the appointment of four ad hoc judges to reduce the pending cases in the Supreme Court.
The Chief Justice of Pakistan said that the meeting of the Judicial Commission will be held on July 19. The Judicial Commission will consider 4 names for ad hoc judges.
Sources said that the Chief Justice has nominated the names of Justice (Retired) Mushir Alam, Justice (Retired) Maqbool Baqar for ad hoc judges, while the names of Justice (Retired) Mazhar Alam Mian Khel and Justice (Retired) Sardar Tariq Masood are also included in the nominated judges.
Sources said that the decision of ad hoc judges was taken to reduce the pending cases in the Supreme Court.
A retired judge can be appointed ad hoc judge in 3 years or less, 4 former judges of the Supreme Court have been proposed to be made ad hoc judges for 3 years.
According to the constitution, there must be 17 judges to appoint an ad hoc judge in the Supreme Court.
On other hand, Former Supreme Court judge Justice Mushir Alam refused from becoming an ad hoc judge.
In his letter to the Judicial Commission of Pakistan, Justice (Retired) Mushir Alam said, "Allah has given me more honor than my position. I am deeply disappointed by the campaign launched on social media after the nomination of ad hoc judges."
Justice Retired Mushir Alam further wrote that in the current circumstances, he apologize for working as an ad hoc judge.
On the other hand, sources said that Justice Retired Sardar Tariq Masood and Justice Retired Mazhar Alam Mian Khel have agreed to join as ad hoc judges in the Supreme Court.

Sources also said that Justice Retired Maqbool Baqar has not yet responded to the Registrar Supreme Court.
