Israel has intercepted and dismantled nearly the entire Global Sumud Flotilla — a 44-boat humanitarian mission aiming to breach the blockade on Gaza, arresting around 450 international activists. However, one vessel, the Marinette, continues its journey towards the besieged Palestinian enclave, defying Israeli warnings.
The Polish-flagged yacht, reportedly crewed by six individuals including activists from Turkey, Oman, and Australia, is now the last operational vessel of the flotilla. According to organisers, the Marinette had initially fallen behind due to engine issues but has since resumed its course and remains determined to reach Gaza.
"We have a bunch of very tough Turks onboard… we’ve got a lady from Oman and myself, and we’re just going to continue in the direction," said Australian captain Cameron in a live update Thursday night. As of 04:00 GMT Friday, a livestream showed the crew navigating through calm seas with the rising sun behind them, still in international waters — approximately 43 nautical miles (80km) from Gaza's territorial waters.
Despite the risk, the crew appears undeterred. Israel’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has reiterated its position, stating that "any attempt to enter an active combat zone and breach the blockade will also be prevented."
The flotilla, which had drawn activists from more than 40 countries, was largely intercepted on Wednesday by Israeli naval forces. Dozens of boats carrying medical aid and essential supplies were turned back, and hundreds were detained.
The fate of the Marinette remains uncertain, with international observers watching closely. The boat’s defiance has sparked a wave of online support and reignited debate over Israel’s blockade and the humanitarian crisis in Gaza.
