ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad High Court (IHC) annulled the jail trial against former Federal Minister Fawad Chaudhry in contempt of Election Commission of Pakistan case.
Islamabad High Court Justice Saman Rafat Imtiaz accepted Fawad Chaudhry's petition and declared his jail trial in the contempt Election Commission null and void.
After the High Court's decision, the contempt charge against Fawad Chaudhry in the Election Commission will also become ineffective.
It should be remembered that in August 2023, a 5-member bench headed by Chief Election Commissioner Sikandar Sultan Raja rejected Fawad Chaudhry's apology and issued a show-cause notice to him in the contempt Election Commission case.
On July 11, a 4-member bench headed by Election Commission member Nisar Durrani heard the case related to contempt of the Chief Election Commissioner and the Election Commission of Pakistan and issued a bailable arrest warrant for Fawad Chaudhry for non-appearance.
