PESHAWAR: Azam Swati has approached the Peshawar High Court(PHC) on the issue of postponing the Senate elections for not taking the oath of the members of reserved seats in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly.

PTI leader Azam Swati's lawyer, Ali Azeem Afridi, advocate submitted a petition to the Peshawar High Court, in which it has been decided that postponing the Senate elections in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa is illegal.

The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) issued the decision without hearing the Senate candidates. Those who heard were just elected and they did not even take the oath.

It has been argued in the petition that the petitioner Azam Swati is a Senate candidate and he was not heard, the election process of the Senate will be affected by the decision of the ECP  and it is the constitutional responsibility of the electoral body to ensure timely Senate elections.
