“CTRL” explores the trending theme of AI and its potential to take over the world. While AI's benefits and transformative power are frequently discussed, this film shifts focus to the often-overlooked dangers of artificial intelligence in our daily lives. The story follows influencer couple Nella and Joe, who present an idealized version of their lives online for their followers.
As tensions rise between Nella and Joe, Nella (played by Ananya Panday) grows frustrated with how their relationship is barely holding on. Overwhelmed by the couple's online presence, she feels disconnected and hands over control of her life to AI (Allen). As their story unfolds, a key moment shows AI (Allen) planning Nella's social media comeback, with a special connection to Shah Rukh Khan in the scene.
It says, “Kal subah tumhe jaldi uthna hoga kyunki tumhara social media comeback plan karna hai aur is comeback ko SRK ke comeback se zaada dhamaakedaar hona hoga. (Tomorrow morning, you will have to wake up earlier because we need to plan your social media comeback, which should be grander than Shah Rukh Khan's comeback.)"
At first glance, the dialogue may seem ordinary, but no Bollywood or Shah Rukh Khan fan could miss the reference to King Khan's legendary comeback. After ruling the box office for over three decades, SRK amassed an unmatched fan following. However, he hit a rough patch when several of his films underperformed. Following the release of “Zero” in 2018, SRK decided to take a break and canceled future projects. What followed next became part of cinema history!
Living up to his title as the "King of Bollywood," Shah Rukh Khan made a triumphant return in 2023 with three consecutive blockbusters: “Pathaan”, “Jawan”, and “Dunki”. These films earned immense love from fans and critics alike. Referencing SRK's comeback in a film isn't just a notable achievement but also serves as a powerful source of inspiration for other actors and professionals, encouraging them to keep pushing forward and never give up.
Meanwhile, “CTRL”, featuring Ananya Panday and Vihaan Samat, is now streaming on Netflix. Vikramaditya Motwane directed the screenlife thriller, with Nikhil Dwivedi and Arya Menon producing the film.
