  • Robbins criticized the algorithms that steer users toward similar content, stating "We're in big trouble."
  • He praised Ted Turner's television channel, Turner Classic Movies, and VHS for helping the film attract a wider audience.
  • He has not appeared in any new movies since his 2019 film "Dark Waters".
Tim Robbins has shared his unsettling thoughts on the rise of streaming platforms like Netflix, which have become the go-to medium for enjoying movies at home. The “Shawshank Redemption” star recently expressed his views during a conversation with “The Guardian”.

The “Jacob’s Ladder” actor emphasized how streaming platform algorithms steer users toward similar content, limiting exposure to new and unique material.

“You go on Netflix right now, you see what films are coming out, and you tell me that that’s the future of cinema?” Robbins remarked, adding, “We’re in big trouble.”

Speaking about his widely acclaimed film “The Shawshank Redemption”, the actor noted that it has been 30 years since the movie first hit the big screen. Robbins explained that while the film received positive reviews and earned Academy Award nominations upon its release, it wasn’t widely watched at the time.

He then praised Ted Turner’s television channel, Turner Classic Movies, and VHS for helping the film attract a wider audience.

Further discussing the 1994 prison drama, Tim Robbins described it as a "beloved movie" and noted that it remains at the top of many lists.

“I know that a quality movie, a quality television show, will last,” stated the Nothing to lose actor.

Tim Robbins is currently starring in the Apple TV+ science-fiction series “Silo”, alongside Rebecca Ferguson, Rashida Jones, David Oyelowo, Common, and Steve Zahn.

For those who may not know, Tim Robbins won the Academy Award for his role in the 2003 film “Mystic River”.

Talking about his current approach to starring in movies, Tim Robbins told the outlet that he doesn’t want to waste his time on sets “doing something frivolous.”

The “Bull Durham” star has not appeared in any new movies since his 2019 film “Dark Waters”.
