Game of Thrones star Sophie Turner is reportedly set to take on the iconic role of Lara Croft in Amazon’s upcoming Tomb Raider series, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
The live-action series, produced by Amazon MGM Studios and Crystal Dynamics, is based on the popular adventure video game. If the reports are accurate, Turner will follow in the footsteps of Angelina Jolie and Alicia Vikander, who portrayed the British archaeologist in previous film adaptations.
The series is being penned and executive produced by Phoebe Waller-Bridge, who expressed her excitement about the project: “If I could tell my teenage self this was happening, I think she’d explode. Tomb Raider has been a huge part of my life, and I feel incredibly privileged to be bringing it to television with such passionate collaborators. Lara Croft means a lot to me, as she does to many, and I can’t wait to go on this adventure. Bats 'n all.”
Tests for the role took place in October, with several British actresses in contention, including Emma Mackey and Lucy Boynton. American actress Mackenzie Davis also made the shortlist.
Turner, known for her role as Sansa Stark in Game of Thrones, has since appeared in The Staircase, Do Revenge, and the upcoming thriller Haven.
