Robert Pattinson has responded to the long-standing criticism that the “Twilight” franchise ruined the vampire genre. He expressed shock that people are still discussing it nearly two decades later. In an interview, the “Breaking Dawn” actor acknowledged the persistent claims but argued they were outdated. He emphasized that it's unnecessary to focus on the impact of a film released almost twenty years ago.

Pattinson said, "I love that people keep telling me, 'Man, Twilight ruined the vampire genre.' Are you still stuck on that s---? How can you be sad about something that happened almost 20 years ago? It's crazy."

Pattinson, who became an international superstar for his role as Edward Cullen in “The Twilight Saga”, opposite Kristen Stewart's Bella Swan, has always been outspoken about his feelings toward the franchise that made him famous.

He has often expressed mixed emotions about the reception the saga received. He previously hinted that those who criticized the film never actually watched it and based their judgments on assumptions and hearsay.

The “Batman” actor even confessed that when he watched the series, which gained unexpected popularity and became a global phenomenon, he found the story of "Twilight" too strange.

Reflecting on the sudden popularity of the series, Pattinson described the plot as unexpected. In a 2019 interview, he noted that the series was romantic but in an unconventional way. He argued that it was not a classic love story like “The Notebook”.

Pattinson defined “Twilight” as a tale of obsession, where the protagonist yearns for love tied to something much darker. He emphasized that it wasn't just a typical love story, but rather a case of obsession involving love for something much more sinister.

Pattinson humorously added, "The Notebook is very, very sweet and heartbreaking and stuff. Twilight is about this guy who finds the one girl he wants to be with and also wants to eat her. Well, not eat her, drink her blood, whatever."

The Remember Me actor added, "I thought there were very romantic bits. But to me, I thought it was a pretty weird story. And even when I was promoting it, I was pretty open about how strange I thought it was when I was doing it."

Since his “Twilight” days, Robert Pattinson has embraced diverse roles, showcasing his wide range as an actor and solidifying his status as a prominent figure in Hollywood. His next major project is “Mickey 17”, a sci-fi film directed by Oscar-winner Bong Joon Ho. The film also stars Naomi Ackie, Toni Collette, Mark Ruffalo, and Steven Yeun. It will hit theaters on March 7, 2025.
