Release of 'The Legend of Maula Jatt' in India Stalled Amid Tensions

  • The release of The Legend of Maula Jatt in India has stopped.
  • The screening has been canceled due to political and social tensions.
  • The movie, starring Fawad and Mahir, broke records at the box office.
The highly anticipated Indian release of the highly successful Pakistani film The Legend of Maula Jatt has encountered a major obstacle. According to a distributor, the screening that was originally scheduled for October 2, 2024 has been postponed because of ongoing political and social unrest between the two nations.

Nadeem Mandviwalla, a prominent film distributor in Pakistan, confirmed the development to PTI. "The Indian ministry has obtained a stay order from a court against the release of the film, so the screening is now stalled," he explained.

Mandviwalla expressed disappointment over the delay but remained hopeful. “Unfortunately, its release has once again been stalled, and there is nothing anyone can do until the court gives its decision,” he revealed. He also added, “I am pretty sure, given the quality and efforts put into the making of the film and its brilliant cast, Maula Jatt will be a big hit in Indian Punjab."

Previously, on September 18, renowned filmmaker Bilal Lashari declared that Zee Studios, in association with Zindagi, would release the movie in Indian Punjab. However, the release appears uncertain at this time due to an alleged ban.

The Legend of Maula Jatt, starring Fawad Khan and Mahira Khan, broke records at the box office, grossing over ₹400 crores in domestic and international markets. The last Pakistani film released in India was Bol in 2011.
