Federal Minister for Planning, Development, and Special Initiatives Ahsan Iqbal has stated that Pakistan's entertainment industry has significant potential to succeed on the global stage.
He made these remarks during a roundtable meeting in Karachi with prominent producers and directors from the Pakistani showbiz industry. The discussion focused on the need to revamp the country’s drama and film industry to meet international standards.
Expressing his desire to see Pakistani dramas and films on major international streaming platforms like Netflix and Amazon, Ahsan Iqbal said that Pakistani dramas are appreciated worldwide but remain absent from global digital platforms.
He expressed regret over the stagnation of the film industry, noting that only a few films are released each year. He urged filmmakers to explore new storylines and avoid recycled and repetitive themes.
Ahsan Iqbal emphasized the importance of an export-driven economy for national economic stability. He urged drama and film industry leaders to engage with international forums and create content that contributes to the national economy. He highlighted that those involved in film and drama are cultural ambassadors of Pakistan and play a crucial role in shaping the country's global image.
He added that there are immense opportunities for economic growth in the country, and all sectors, including the film and drama industry, can play a role in this development.
The Minister for Planning stated that due to government-level policies, significant progress has been made in sports, dramas, and the film industry.
Attendees of the meeting included director Nadeem Baig, producer Satish Anand, and actress Hina Khawaja Bayat.
