Ben Affleck & Matt Damon’s return to Dogma 2, Kevin Smith reveals shocking details

Kevin Smith has confirmed that “Dogma 2” is coming soon, with Ben Affleck and Matt Damon possibly returning for the sequel. During the Vulture Festival's panel, Smith announced that he is working on a follow-up to his 1999 film, 25 years later.

Smith suggested that Affleck and Damon will likely reprise their roles as the fallen angels, Bartleby and Loki, even if it's just for a cameo, according to Deadline. The "Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back" director said, "Some people will be like, ‘Don’t f—ing touch it. You’ll ruin it.' And I’m here to tell you: I will. I’m f—ing tickled. I found a way in."

Speaking on how certain he is about the duo's appearance in the sequel, Smith said, "Expect a cameo from them — more than a f—ing cameo. We can only get a "Dogma" sequel made if they are involved. So count on those guys being there."

“Dogma” (1999) featured a star-studded cast, including Alan Rickman, Chris Rock, Salma Hayek, Jason Lee, Linda Fiorentino, Janeane Garofalo, and George Carlin, alongside Affleck and Damon. Although the film was successful and well-liked by critics, it became controversial for its portrayal of Catholics in a manner some deemed blasphemous.

This controversy sparked protests and even death threats directed at Smith. Despite this, the movie remains one of the most beloved in the “View Askewniverse” series, praised for its dry humor and critique of religion. It earned over 43 million USD on a budget of 10 million USD.

While working on the sequel, Smith also revealed that a “Dogma” re-release and a new home release are in the works. This will mark the first time the movie will be available for streaming. The reproduction comes after another company acquired the distribution rights from Miramax, which Smith believes will pave the way for sequels and even a TV show set in the same world.

In the past, Kevin Smith hesitated to accept Harvey Weinstein's offer to make “Dogma 2” after accusations against Weinstein began surfacing in 2017. Smith also expressed shame for having worked with Weinstein and pledged to donate all earnings from his projects produced by Weinstein to the Women in Film charity.
