Suzuki plans to cut the Alto hatchback's weight by 15% over the next decade to improve fuel efficiency and reduce production costs. The current weight is 680 kilograms, and the target is a 100-kilogram reduction for a more economical and eco-friendly vehicle.

Tatsuya Matsushita, a Suzuki executive, noted that reducing the car's weight would enable the use of smaller batteries and motors, thereby lowering vehicle costs. He noted, “A heavier car requires larger batteries and motors to achieve long-range and high performance. By decreasing the weight, we can optimize the vehicle’s efficiency and reduce costs.”

Suzuki’s analysis indicates that a 200-kilogram weight reduction could decrease energy consumption by 20% during manufacturing and by 6% during vehicle operation, improving fuel efficiency and making the car more affordable for consumers.
