KARACHI: Pakistan Petroleum Limited signed a memorandum of understanding with Folio3, a U.S.-headquartered artificial intelligence company, to deploy AI technology across its upstream oil and gas operations.
PPL Managing Director and CEO Mohammad Khalid Rehman signed the agreement with Folio3 CEO Adnan Lawai at PPL's head office in Karachi. Company officials from both sides attended the signing.
Under the agreement, the two companies will explore AI applications in drilling optimization, exploration, predictive maintenance and other business functions. PPL said the partnership aims to accelerate practical adoption of AI and drive innovation across its operations.
"This initiative aligns with PPL's commitment to contribute towards a smarter, more sustainable energy future for the nation," the company said in a statement.
Folio3 has a global delivery footprint and specializes in AI technology solutions. The partnership gives PPL access to the firm's AI capabilities as energy companies worldwide increasingly seek technology partnerships to gain competitive advantages in data analysis and operational efficiency.
The deal comes as artificial intelligence adoption accelerates across the global energy sector. Oil and gas producers have been partnering with technology firms to apply AI to complex operational data, with goals ranging from automating routine decisions to improving safety and production outcomes.
PPL is one of Pakistan's largest state-affiliated upstream energy companies, with operations spanning oil, natural gas and coalbed methane exploration and production.
