Pakistan consumer prices surge 11.07% in June

KARACHI: Pakistan's Consumer Price Index (CPI) inflation rate stood at 11.07% in June 2026, even as consumer prices fell on a monthly basis, the national statistics agency said Wednesday.

The Consumer Price Index declined 0.30% in June compared with May, according to the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics.

Urban inflation rose 11.2% year-on-year but fell 0.5% from the previous month. Rural inflation climbed 10.9% year-on-year and was unchanged on a monthly basis.

Core inflation, which excludes volatile food and energy prices, eased to 8.7% in urban areas and 7.9% in rural areas, the data showed.

Separately, the statistics agency said Pakistan met its inflation target for the just-concluded fiscal year. Average annual consumer inflation for fiscal year 2025-26 came in at 7.05%, matching the government's official target.

The government had set an average inflation target of 7.05% for the fiscal year, which ended June 30. Wednesday's data confirmed the goal was achieved.
